If we think about all the times we have catastrophised our own lives, and how the outcome of The Thing is never what we imagined it to be (not necessarily better than anticipated, but at least different), then at least the concept of building tension should be something we remember as writers, even if it might feel challenging to implement.

Great point that understanding human nature makes us better writers. It truly does. In some cases, it also helps prevent purple prose. That's a bit cheeky, but who hasn't read a little tidbit of text, laughed and said no one actually does that. :)
